Commissioned by The Christian Reformed Church of North America, Darlene went to Sierra Leone West Africa to work with the Kuranko Musicians and Singers there and brought them back to America to perform with her in the "Free to Serve" multi-media event that toured in major venues in the US and Canada fall 1996. Darlene was the event's director, performed vocals, piano and was the mass choirs conductor. She wrote and/or arranged all the music.
